i Want to have good managerial skills for my future, so better start practicing as from nw:P


As a manager, you're going to have a world of a job to do. That's because when you manage people, you can't just depend on your own skills. No matter how fully in control and confident you are in yourself, you can never be the same way all the time with other people. That's because as manager, your success will now depend on the success of those people under your management. You may be the best accountant in your firm, but if someone in your team is compromising your company's reputation with substandard work, that will be your failure. You can keep blaming the candidate screening process but even that won't help because you can't reverse the system. Therefore, you only have your managerial skills to trust.

As a manager, there are two essential things you need to iron out in order to become effective. First, you have to be able to set things straight with your team mates what your objective or objectives will be. This way, you can be assured that everybody is working towards a common goal and nobody is wasting his and other's time by doing things that are not necessary.

Sometimes, it's easy for managers to think that their people know already what is expected of them. But this is not always the case. Sometimes, you will have staff who are skilled in their field of specialization, but you still need to map things out for them to get them started and get them started in the right direction. Make sure everyone knows what to do and make them understand why they need to do it so can put value on it as they should.

The other basic aspect of management is managing behavioral or attitudinal issues. Whether you like it or not, conflict will always be part of any team, no matter seemingly perfect each one's qualifications are. Because this is a group of people with different personalities and expectations, you can always expect disagreements. During conflict, a good manager is always able smooth things out and able to pull everyone together enough that the team still manages to deliver on its goals as if nothing happened.

Sure, it's not a perfect world and it never will be. But a good manager will know how to make it close simply by listening to the team members. Even in the academe, administrators can make continually hone its teaching and other staff as one of student retention strategies they can use. No matter how trivial the issues, these are still issues that are capable of blowing out of proportion when they are left to thrive. In other words, know where the cracks are so you know where you need to be patching. And then, you can have everything working out with all the holes covered.
